Message from Mungo wins UN film award

A film co-produced by Professor Ann McGrath has won the 2014 United Nations Association of Australia media award for promotion of Indigenous recognition.
Message from Mungo, produced by Professor McGrath from the ANU Centre for Indigenous History and Andrew Pike from Ronin Films (also an ANU alumnus), took over seven years to make.
It tells the story of the surfacing of the remains of ‘Mungo Lady’ over forty years ago, and the interactions between scientists and the traditional custodians of the land.
"This award is a wonderful recognition of our efforts to ensure that the Lake Mungo story is more widely known,” says Professor McGrath.
“This story of courageous people, of mutual transformation and of deep history, can help us to better understand the whole sweep of Australia's human history.”
